  15. In article <Pine.SUN.3.91.950607044413.10957B-100000@access4.digex.net>, Ernie Wright <erniew@access4.digex.net> says:
  16. >
  17. >What he's really thinking is, what can I say that
  18. >might persuade them to lower the cost for ME?
  19.
  20. Of course that's the real answer.  Educational pricing encourages
  21. a kind of intellectual and professional whoring, where they'll
  22. simply donate themselves to the lowest bidder.
  23.
  24. Actually, I don't think most college kids can afford a computer.
  25. Even if they can, it's probably not a wise investment.
  26.
  27. When I was in college, I spent too much money on a C-64 system.
  28. A waste of $1,500 1983 dollars.  I used it to type a few term
  29. papers, dink around programming, play a few games.  Meanwhile,
  30. I could've accomplished much greater intellectual goals by using
  31. the extensive computers owned by the university.  Of course, I
  32. did spend a lot of time with them, too, but I blew a semester's
  33. cash on a toy computer, at the same time I had student loans.
  34.
  35. >Why does this require a response?
  36.
  37. Because we can all do our part to help educate the world's youth. :-)
  38.
  39. It takes an entire electronic village to smack those whiney college
  40. kids up-side the head...  what, you think it's humane to let them
  41. enter the real world without any idea of the way things work?  :-)
